Advanced battery technology is an important means for humanity to address global climate change and energy crises. Particularly, the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry and large-scale energy storage in recent years has brought significant market opportunities for the lithium-ion battery industry. However, along with this rapid development come numerous challenges. During usage or storage, lithium-ion batteries are prone to various types of failure, including capacity degradation (capacity fade), short cycle life, increased internal resistance, abnormal voltage, lithium plating, gas generation, leakage, short circuit, deformation, and thermal runaway. These failures significantly reduce the performance, consistency, reliability, and safety of lithium-ion batteries. Accurate diagnosis of battery failures and investigation of their failure mechanisms are important tasks in the development of lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries, holding great significance for improving battery performance, technological advancements, and fault prevention.
Currently, companies and research institutions with strong R&D capabilities have established teams for failure analysis. However, their capacity still falls short of meeting the demands of technological development. High-level failure analysis relies on advanced testing techniques and a deep, detailed, systematic, and accurate understanding of batteries and related materials.
To further promote the development of battery failure analysis and testing technology in China, meet the needs of research institutions and companies, and stay updated on the progress in failure analysis and advanced testing technology, the "5th National Symposium on Advanced Battery Failure Analysis and Testing Technology" will be held in Liyang City, Jiangsu Province on October 26-27, 2023. The symposium will bring together high-level experts, third-party testing organizations, and specialists in instrument technology from both domestic and international sources. Discussions will revolve around battery component analysis technology, structural morphology technology, next-generation imaging technology, surface/interface analysis technology, thermal performance analysis technology, gas analysis technology, safety failure analysis technology, numerical simulation and modeling technology, synchrotron radiation and neutron scattering technology, intelligent sensing technology, and more. The aim is to promote the development of advanced battery failure analysis and testing technology in China.
